We’re taking a brief vacation from our cruising. We left the Willie Dawes in the capable hands of the crew at Grande Dunes Marina in N. Myrtle Beach, SC, under the watchful eyes of Stan and Judy - and Zach, the guard dog - on Assisted Living.
Unable to find a rental car in the surrounding area, we ended up renting a Penske truck. This had pros and cons: it was far bigger than needed, it required several deviations from the Google-generated map as the program kept trying to divert us onto low-clearance, cars-only parkways, and it’s slower and takes more gas than a car. On the positive side, it was very comfortable, it gave us the opportunity to bring home as many things as possible - including an 18’ piece of bamboo, and it was available. The drop-off was only a few miles from our son Joe’s house, so that was convenient too.
We’ll stay here a few weeks, visiting family and friends, and tending to medical appointments, before we figure out a way to get back to Willie for the next leg of our adventure.
Tommie has already settled in. She was a trooper on the truck ride, and very happy to be home.
Oh - Dan did not find that anchor… but he spent several hours looking for it.
